Bye, bye, Bluths – The Boston Globe

There’s no point in getting righteously ticked off about the end of ”Arrested Development.” The show was born to be a martyr. It was built for TV fanatics and Hollywood insiders, and its three-year run has been an unexpected gift. I doubt Fox honchos truly believed the brilliantly insane sitcom would become a Nielsen hit when it premiered in 2003, despite a likeness to the network’s successful animated comedies. ”Arrested Development” was too densely witty and too elliptically naughty to ever become a Next Big Thing. From the start, this series had ”legendary ratings flop” written all over it.

Indeed, we’re lucky to have gotten 53 rich episodes. I still marvel at the frequency of jokes in each 22-minute block of ”Arrested Development.” The four final episodes, which air back to back tomorrow night at 8 on Channel 25, are so layered, you’ll want to re-watch them to catch the puns and self-references and sly allusions you overlooked.

What a revolting ‘Development’ — Newsday.com

For a tiny subset of the American population called the “Save our Bluths” – aka the Bluthies – today will live as a day in infamy. They’ve cajoled. They’ve begged. They’ve done what every other red-blooded, cockeyed, obsessive TV fan does – e-mailed network executives. But to no avail.

“Arrested Development” will end its three-season run on Fox in a two-hour block tonight starting at 8. And unless Showtime picks it up – where even fewer viewers are guaranteed, if that’s arithmetically possible – then “Arrested” will drift off to DVD heaven.

Is this “fair”? Don’t even go there. This isn’t traffic court or even “Judge Joe Brown.” It’s television, where majority rules, and it’s America, where the number of Bluthies can be counted on one hand – say, Buster’s hand.

Bye Bye Bluths?

…This Friday night, the Fox network will air four “Arrested Development” episodes that may well be the last hurrah for Mitch Hurwitz’ critically acclaimed Bluth-centric comedy. Officially, Fox is calling the two-hour block a “mini-marathon third season finale,” but the Bluths are unlikely to be seen ever again on Fox — or network television….

Showtime wants ‘Arrested Development’

The folks at Showtime aren’t coy about their interest in “Arrested Development.” They’re salivating over the series.

Showtime (part of the CBS Corp. within Viacom) has made an offer to Twentieth Century Fox for the show, contingent on Mitch Hurwitz continuing as the creative force behind it.

“And he hasn’t yet come to that decision to continue the show,” said Robert Greenblatt, Showtime’s entertainment chief….

CANOE — JAM! Television – TV Shows – Arrested Development: ‘Arrested Development’ rescue eyed

PASADENA, Calif. — Here’s the latest development with Arrested Development.

The U.S. premium cable channel Showtime — home of such series as Huff, The L-Word and Weeds — is definitely trying to rescue the series.

“Nothing would make us happier than to have it,” Showtime entertainment president Robert Greenblatt told critics Thursday.

“I think the show is only worth continuing if Mitch Hurwitz was at the helm running it,” says Greenblatt. “And he hasn’t yet come to that decision to continue the show.”
